HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO.25

Requesting that the Governor designate the week of August 30 to
September 5, 2000, as Marine Corps League Week and designate
September 4 each year as Marine Corps League Day.
Whereas, West Virginians over the years have chosen the United
States Marine Corps in large numbers and have served in the Marine
Corps with distinction, with many of them having given their full
measure of devotion to their state and country; and
Whereas, There needs to be some symbol of recognition for the
many thousands of West Virginia citizens who were and are marines;
and
Whereas, The West Virginia Department of the Marine Corps
League, with 14 Detachments located throughout the State,
consisting of almost a thousand members has suggested that Governor
Cecil H. Underwood designate the week of August 30 to September 5,
2000, as Marine Corps League Week and designate September 4 each
year as Marine Corps League Day; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That Governor Cecil H. Underwood is urged to consider the
request of the West Virginians who are now, or have served this
state and nation, as members of the United States Marine Corps and
designate the week of August 30 to September 5 as Marine Corps
League Week and September 4 as Marine Corps League Day, each year;
and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House is hereby
requested to forward a copy of this resolution to the Governor and
the Commandant of the Marine Corps League.
